If you know the acordian player from TrashAxis, you probably know that last Saturday was his birthday. You'd probably might also know that last Saturday they had an epically insane show at his house up in the hills of Tijuana. First opening band was Los Tijuana Twist, a local garage-surf band with super catchy and danceable tunes that, well, make you wanna twist like no tomorrow. Then la bandas after them, Mala Salud (SD punk/skacore) and Iwokk (TJ Hardcore), almost turned the tiny ass living room into a full-packed riot zone full of moshing, heavy ear-shredding riffs and plenty of beer to be passed around. Finally, headliners TrashAxis set up their gear on the outside porch after the light rain stopped pouring too much. Fun and grindy set including a rad cover of "In Sight" by SF legends Dead Kennedys, but had to end early due to one member struggling to perform despite dealing with recent back pain issues (Thank you TrashAxis for still coming out and playing for us <3). Viva la punk rock en Tijuana, amigos y amigas!

PS- another rad show coming up at the Park Gallery in downtown SD this friday! Come out if ya can!

Catching Back Up...

Hola, todos. I apologize for my brief absence from this site, but I'll be starting to keep this site updated again.

Also, with help of friends, we'll soon start including some album reviews and interviews with local SD/TJ artists, musicians, etc. San Diego and Baja are a melting pot of cultures that more people need to know and hear about.

Tomorrow, Friday 1/20/12, SD's gonna be having some major demonstration action alive as part of a nationwide Occupy the Courts. List of the event and other radical events around it that same day via indyMedia:

880 Front Street. Rally at noon.

Also,
8pm 3'rd friday of the month bike ride with Bikes del Pueblo:

Saturday Warriors; show reviews

San Diego had a pretty eventful evening last weekend. And we're not talking about holiday dinner parties or holiday after-party orgies with coworkers. In downtown, street punks got to rage along with Verbal Abuse and touring German band SS-Kaliert. Like any other night at the Yard, circle pits and sidewalk slams kept the atmosphere lively.

Here's a few photos (by Juan Ibarra) from the Yard show that I found via Facebook:

Also on the same night, up north at the Che Cafe Collective in UCSD, I showed up to catch grindcore veterans Graf Orlock and California hXc state locals Dangers. Opening bands were Negative Standards and Griever. The show in general had a pretty diverse turn-out of show-goers from differnt backgrounds, scenes, etcetc thanks to the fun show line-up. The rest can be explained via photos. Yay phooottoooss (these ones by me):

Eenie meenie miny mo....

So this Saturday (17 Dec 2011) is just around the corner, and it's gonna be a hyped day with two epic shows coming up... one at The Yard in Downtown and one at the Che Cafe on UCSD campus(La Jolla).

En la centro:

If you need to find the Yard, message the SDPyratePunx here.

SS-Kaliert are all the way out from Germany to bring their homeland street punk to a US city near you. Possibly a "once in a lifetime show", from what I've heard local fans saying. Oh, and one of the bands opening for them? Verbal Abuse, muthafucka. So if you're looking to rage and mosh and drink and all that hoo-rah, go here. SS-Kaliert video from Youtube:

En la norte:

This one doesn't even need an explanation. Just ask any fellow punk or musician or hipster or whatever. It's gonna tear some shit up. Local SD heroes Griever will also be one of the opening bands. Click on the flyer photo above for more info. And here's a Graf Orlock video from Youtube:

A Jingle from The Max Levine Ensemble this Winter

One of our favorite Midwest American pop-punk bands, The Max Levine Ensemble, are going to be on tour this winter to come see all your pretty faces. And one of their stops? San Diego, 01/15/12, @ Che Cafe on the UCSD campus in La Jolla. Yup, good ol' Che Cafe! Fill-u-in info: these 3 dudes from Washington DC have been playing and recording DIY for almost a decade now and still never let us down when it comes to being a rad band!I've gotten to hang with them at other shows before and they're super chill and intelligent dudes. Here's one of their recent songs:

So since I'm telling you about this almost two months ahead of time, we hope you all come out and party like it's the apocalypse (lol2012lol).
